Short Films : The Future of Cinema - DU EXPRESS
Here are some short films (shorter than 30 minutes) that we would highly recommend to anyone to watch.
1. Juice – A powerful short written and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. Manju Singh ( Shefali Shah) and her husband are hosting a get-together of families on a really warm night. Between the snacks, drinks, and laughs, something completely unexpected happens. The movie shows that the patriarchal world sadly still exists in our society
2. Ghar Ki Murgi – This recent Ashwini Iyer Tiwari movie starring Sakshi Tanwar is a very thoughtful short film. Ghar ki Murgi (Taken for Granted) by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, is rooted in the subculture of societal truth. It is a slice of life, the emotional journey of a wife, mother, and daughter in law, finding her true self in a world of ‘family and responsibility.
3. Adheen – Adheen’, a perfect short by Yash Verma starring Sanjay Mishra, Neeraj Purohit & Anupriya Goenka. An excellent portrayal of a dysfunctional family, where the members in the household are continuously engaged in various conflicts with each other, leading to an increasing distance over differences.

4. Laddoo – There are times when someone with innocent questions can make you step back and think. The film delivered the message so innocently that religion is our own belief but at first, we are all human. This masterpiece is directed by Sameer Sadhwani & Kishor Sadhwani and pen down by Pankaj Chaturvedi.
5. Baatein – Adeeb Rais’s ‘Baatein’ is a poignant story that shows us the difference it makes when a person decides to be just there and listen. Every time Supriya Pilgaonkar come, creates magic on screen. The 20-minute short film gently addresses various important issues like Suicide, Depression, and Ragging in a subtle and sensitive manner.
6. Aunty Ji – ‘AuntyJi’ is a sweet slice of life tale that follows an important day in the lives of Parveen (Shabana Azmi) and Geetika (Anmol Rodriguez). The 20 minutes short film is a gentle reminder to follow your heart, chase your dreams and let no external force come in the way of living your life your way.
7. Ahalya – Suspense, seduction, deceit. A perfect short which makes you want to hold on to your seat. An epic retold in a modern fashion. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh is an awesome watch. Very interestingly director has used the mythological injustice. It’s got Radhika Apte in it and is another excellent thriller to watch. We would highly recommend this one. It’s intelligently eerie and has spectacular performances in it.
So these are seven short films we would highly recommend you to watch on YouTube. you see life is short but even in that, you can watch these shorts. So go and enjoy it.
